In his second inaugural address today, President Barack Obama spoke of citizenship, climate change, immigrants and civil rights. He offered a pointed defense of Social Security and Medicare, and he offered a pointed critique of partisan politics.
Most of all, the president spoke of a theme he’s returned to frequently in his political career — that America’s democracy is a process, a “more perfect union” forever in the making.
